The Gamble
Creation is hard.
It never comes easy,
except when it does,
when words bubble up
and beg to be written
you cannot ignore them. You ride on their current
without knowing where
they come from, or where
they will take you.To make something new
in this world
is risky.
The fire you light
may consume you,
or hiss into nothing. Those are the outcomes
Linda Rushby 26 April 2021
that none can predict,
the gamble that no one can call:
to trust your instinct,
or blow out the fire.

NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 25
Advice
‘You do know, don’t you?’
the Wise Man said kindly,
‘All creative people
struggle,
it’s part of the package.’Remember the hope
that burns and scars? You can search for the river
and wait for the boat,
to ride on the current
of peace and contentment,Or get up each morning
Linda Rushby 25 April 2021
and grasp the spark,
to burn yourself
a little more.
NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 24
Night Sky
The air is sharp and still,
the sky is bitter black
and stretches out forever. Its distant lights,
always moving away
at untold speeds,
silver pinpricks
like crackling ice.You stand alone,
Linda Rushby 24 April 2021
pierced by their
indifference
to your fate.
NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 23
River
I am searching for a river
Linda Rushby 23 April 2021
of light and hope
and a boat of courage
to carry me
along the current.
NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 22
Night and Day
By night
I am besieged
by thoughts and fantasies
that melt with daylight.
I wake
and find the thread is frayed,
the path is buried
beneath the brambles.I fill another day
Linda Rushby 22 April 2021
with trivialities
that matter to no one,
not even to me.
NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 19
Air
Inspiration.
Draw the air in,
let it travel through you,
squeezing its way
through the alveoli,
releasing life
into your cells.
Feel your body expand
as the air becomes you.Expiration.
Linda Rushby 19 April 2021
Release the breath,
push it out to the air
let it go with a sigh.
Feel your body relax
as a piece of you
escapes in the world.
NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 18
Icarus
We wait for signs
Linda Rushby 18 April 2021
and opportunities,
then jump at
the wrong time,
to soar like Icarus,
or crash to earth,
in a chaos of feathers
and melting wax.
NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 17
New Moon
The crescent returns,
Linda Rushby 17 April 2021
creeping into the black sky
like a silver sickle
slashing through the darkness,
waxing brighter
through the passing nights.
NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 16
Destruction
Fire destroys,
but fire creates,
excites the atoms,
setting things in motion.A spark ignites,
excites the neurones,
setting thoughts in motion. All things change.
Linda Rushby 16 April 2021
NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 15
The Curse
There is no choice:
to grasp the fire,
or cower in the darkness?
And from Olympus
comes Prometheus,
carrying the curse
of our salvation.
