NaPoWriMo Day 27 – Creation

Take a thread,
bend it, fold it,
make a loop.
Wrap it round your finger,
or a needle
or a hook.

Pull it through itself.
Repeat,
and make another,
or add another thread,
perhaps another colour.

Soon you have a chain
that you can join
to make a circle,
or turn back on itself
and feed it through
the loops you made.

And now the fabric’s thicker
and it grows through repetition.

A miracle.
From one dimension,
you created two.

NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 26

The Gamble

Creation is hard.
It never comes easy,
except when it does,
when words bubble up
and beg to be written
you cannot ignore them.

You ride on their current
without knowing where
they come from, or where
they will take you.

To make something new
in this world
is risky.
The fire you light
may consume you,
or hiss into nothing.

Those are the outcomes
that none can predict,
the gamble that no one can call:
to trust your instinct,
or blow out the fire.

Advice

‘You do know, don’t you?’
the Wise Man said kindly,
‘All creative people
struggle,
it’s part of the package.’

Remember the hope
that burns and scars?

You can search for the river
and wait for the boat,
to ride on the current
of peace and contentment,

Or get up each morning
and grasp the spark,
to burn yourself
a little more.
